Xue Lan

Also known as Lan Xue, 薛澜

Xue Lan is a public policy scholar at Tsinghua University whose work connects AI with international governance. He earned a Carnegie Mellon doctorate in 1991, returned to Tsinghua in 1996, and worked in Tsinghua's School of Public Policy and Management from 2000 to 2018, ending as its dean. In September 2018, he became dean of Schwarzman College, and in March 2019 he began chairing China's National Expert Committee on New Generation AI Governance. TIME placed him among its Thinkers on the 2025 TIME100 AI list. As of October 2026, he is dean of Schwarzman College and heads the Institute for AI International Governance, which Tsinghua approved in April 2020.
