Researcher

Li Dong

Also known as 董力

Li Dong is a principal researcher in Microsoft Research Asia's General AI group, and his papers cover language-model pretraining, vision pretraining and large language models. He worked at Beihang University from 2010 and joined Microsoft Research Asia's Natural Language Computing group in 2012. His Edinburgh dissertation, Learning Natural Language Interfaces with Neural Models, was named a runner-up for the AAAI/ACM SIGAI Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2019. He co-authored Unified Language Model Pre-training for Natural Language Understanding and Generation at NeurIPS 2019, and he submitted BEiT to arXiv in June 2021. In 2023 he submitted Language Is Not All You Need and Retentive Network to arXiv, and in 2025 he received a best paper runner-up honour at an ICCV workshop.
