Researcher

Ilija Radosavovic

Ilija Radosavovic is a computer-vision and robotics researcher whose work spans object detection, network design and robot learning. As a first-year student at Imperial College London, he programmed a StarFox-inspired Raspberry Pi game and later worked on video recognition in a Computing MEng project. He coauthored data distillation and RegNet, contributed to Detectron, and received the 2021 PAMI Mark Everingham Award. In February 2025, he is a PhD student in EECS at UC Berkeley, advised by Jitendra Malik; his 2025 dissertation is titled Robotics as Sensorimotor Sequence Modeling.

Timeline

  1. 2014

    PiFox on Raspberry Pi

In 2014, he joins three fellow first-year undergraduates at Imperial College London to build PiFox, a 3D StarFox homage for Raspberry Pi written in ARM assembly.

  2. 2016–2017

    A Computing MEng project

In 2016–2017, his Computing MEng 4 project at Imperial College London explores semi-supervised instance recognition from video under Professor Daniel Rueckert.

  3. 2018

    Data distillation and Detectron

In 2018, he coauthors the CVPR paper Data Distillation: Towards Omni-Supervised Learning, which combines predictions from transformed unlabeled data to generate training annotations. He also coauthors Detectron, Facebook AI Research's software system for object-detection research.

  4. 2020

    Designing RegNet

In 2020, he and four coauthors introduce RegNet, a network design space that represents populations of neural architectures. Their paper finds that the widths and depths of good networks can be explained by a quantized linear function.

  5. 2021

    The PAMI Mark Everingham Award

In 2021, he receives the PAMI Mark Everingham Award.

  6. 2022–2024

    Robot learning for humanoids

In 2022, he coauthors a method that pretrains visual representations on diverse, in-the-wild videos for real-world robotic tasks. In 2024, a transformer-based humanoid controller by him and his coauthors predicts actions from observation histories and walks over rough, deformable and sloped terrain.

  7. 2025

    A Berkeley PhD student

In February 2025, he is a PhD student in EECS at UC Berkeley, advised by Jitendra Malik. His 2025 dissertation is titled Robotics as Sensorimotor Sequence Modeling.
