Researcher

Huong Ngo

Huong Ngo is a machine learning researcher whose work centers on the data behind open AI models, from 3D objects and images to speech and computer-use agents. Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, she finished secondary school in Singapore, moved to the US in 2019 and earned a bachelor's degree in data science and statistics at the University of Washington. She interned with Matt Deitke on the PRIOR team at the Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) and coauthored the Objaverse-XL dataset of over 10 million 3D objects in 2023 and the Molmo vision-language models in 2024. As a Predoctoral Young Investigator at Ai2, she worked on speech recognition and was first author of OLMoASR, open English models whose August 2025 paper reports average performance comparable to OpenAI's Whisper. At Vercept, which Anthropic acquired, she worked on data curation, model training and evaluations for computer-use agents, and as of October 2026 she is looking for her next role.

Timeline

  1. 2019

    From Hanoi to UW

Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, she finishes secondary school in Singapore and moves to the US in 2019. She goes on to earn a bachelor's degree in data science and statistics at the University of Washington, where Matt Deitke and Ludwig Schmidt advise her.

  2. July 2023

    The Objaverse-XL dataset

She interns with Matt Deitke on the PRIOR team at the Allen Institute for AI (Ai2). In July 2023, she and Deitke are among the coauthors of Objaverse-XL, a dataset of over 10 million 3D objects built by researchers from Ai2, the University of Washington, Columbia University, Stability AI, LAION and Caltech. The dataset appears in the NeurIPS 2023 Datasets and Benchmarks Track.

  3. September 2024

    Molmo and PixMo

In September 2024, she is one of the coauthors of Molmo, a family of open vision-language models, and PixMo, its datasets of detailed image captions, free-form image questions and answers, and 2D pointing, all collected without external vision-language models. The best 72B Molmo model outperforms larger proprietary models including Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Gemini 1.5 Pro, trailing only GPT-4o on academic benchmarks and a large human evaluation.

  4. August 2025

    The OLMoASR speech models

As a Predoctoral Young Investigator on Ai2's PRIOR team, she works on automatic speech recognition and is first author of OLMoASR, a series of open English speech recognition models whose paper appears on arXiv in August 2025. The team filters a pool of 3 million hours of English audio into OLMoASR-Mix, 1 million hours of audio-transcript pairs, and trains models from 39 million to 1.5 billion parameters. Across model sizes, OLMoASR reaches average performance comparable to OpenAI's Whisper on short- and long-form benchmarks.

  5. As of October 2026

    Computer-use agents at Vercept

At Vercept, which Anthropic acquires, she works as a Member of Technical Staff on data curation, model training and evaluations for computer-use agents. As of October 2026, she is looking for her next role.
