Gim Hee Lee

Also known as Lee Gim Hee

Gim Hee Lee is a computer-vision researcher whose work connects robotics and machine learning with 3D vision. He earned mechanical-engineering degrees at NUS and a computer-science PhD at ETH Zurich before joining NUS in 2015. With PhD student Sixing Hu, he developed CVM-Net to match ground images with aerial imagery and later extended it to video-based vehicle localization. He received the 2024 NRF Investigatorship, chaired 3DV 2025, and as of October 2026 leads NUS's Computer Vision and Robotic Perception Laboratory as an associate professor.

  1. By 2014

    Engineering and an ETH doctorate

    He earns BEng and MEng degrees in mechanical engineering from NUS, then completes a computer-science PhD at ETH Zurich in 2014 on visual mapping and pose estimation for self-driving cars.

  2. 2014–2015

    From ETH to MERL and NUS

    He moves from ETH Zurich to a researcher role at MERL in June 2014, then joins NUS as an Assistant Professor in August 2015.

  3. 2017–2018

    CVM-Net for cross-view matching

    In early 2017, he and PhD student Sixing Hu begin work on CVM-Net, a machine-learning system for matching ground images with aerial imagery. Their paper appears at CVPR in 2018.

  4. 2019

    Video-based satellite localization

    In 2019, he and Sixing Hu extend CVM-Net with a Markov localization framework that uses video frames to track a vehicle on a satellite map.

  5. 2024

    A 2024 NRF Investigatorship

    He receives the NRF Investigatorship as a member of the Class of 2024.

  6. 2025

    General Chair of 3DV

    He serves as General Chair of 3DV 2025, after serving as Program Chair for 3DV 2022.

    Flow4DGS-SLAM at CVPR

    In 2026, he coauthors Flow4DGS-SLAM, a CVPR paper on optical-flow-guided 4D Gaussian Splatting SLAM.
