Ehsan Adeli
Also known as Ehsan Adeli Mosabbeb
Ehsan Adeli is a computer scientist whose AI research connects computer vision with medicine and neuroscience. His training includes computer vision and medical imaging, and he coauthored research on distributed-camera activity recognition, Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and video-based Parkinson’s gait assessment. At Stanford, his work linked video and MRI analysis to neurodegenerative disease research and examined fatigue during cognitive training. As of October 2026, he is an assistant professor at Stanford and director of its Translational AI Lab, co-directs an NIH P30 research center, and chairs MICCAI 2026’s program committee.

Graduate work and camera recognition
His training includes a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence and computer vision; at Carnegie Mellon, he works as a graduate research scholar in computer vision in 2012. In 2013, under the name Ehsan Adeli Mosabbeb, he coauthors a paper on multi-view activity recognition across distributed camera networks. In 2017, he works as a postdoctoral research associate in machine learning and medical imaging at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
-
2018
An end-to-end Alzheimer’s model
In 2018, he coauthors an end-to-end deep-learning model for Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis and biomarker identification using 3D convolutional neural networks.
-
2018
A MICCAI travel award
He receives the MICCAI Young Investigator Travel Award in 2018.
-
2020
Video estimates Parkinson’s gait
In 2020, he coauthors a computer-vision model that extracts 3D body skeletons from video and classifies movement by MDS-UPDRS gait score to assess Parkinson’s disease severity.
-
2020–2021
Clinical assistant professor at Stanford
From 2020 to 2021, he is a clinical assistant professor in Stanford’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, affiliated with its Computational Neuroscience Lab and Stanford Vision and Learning Lab. His project links video-based digital biomarkers of neurodegenerative disease to neural systems measured with MRI.
-
2024
Monitoring fatigue during cognitive training
In 2024, he coauthors a study that develops a Recurrent Video Transformer to monitor mental fatigue in older adults with mild cognitive impairment during computerized cognitive training. The model uses video-recorded facial gestures.
-
As of October 2026
Director of Stanford Translational AI
As of October 2026, he is an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford, with courtesy appointments in computer science and biomedical data science. He directs the Stanford Translational AI Lab and is principal investigator and co-director of the NIH P30 Stanford University AI & Technology Collaboratory. He serves as a program chair for MICCAI 2026.
