Edward Rosten

Also known as Ed Rosten

Edward Rosten is a computer vision researcher whose machine-learning corner detectors made live video feature detection practical. He trained at Oxford and Cambridge, worked at Los Alamos and Cambridge's Machine Intelligence Laboratory, and later ran Computer Vision Consulting. His 2006 paper on high-speed corner detection received the 2016 Koenderink Prize, while a 2008 follow-up showed a learned detector could process live PAL video using less than 5% of available processing time. As of October 2026, he is CTO at Sorted, leading computer-vision and robotics work on AI-powered waste sorting.

    He completes an MEng at Oxford in 2002 and a PhD in computer vision at Cambridge in 2006.

    Research at Los Alamos

    He is a research associate in the ISR-2 group at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 2006 to 2008.

  3. 2008–2011

    Research at Cambridge

    He is a research associate at Cambridge's Machine Intelligence Laboratory from 2008 to 2011 and a University Lecturer in the Engineering Department from 2010 to 2011. In 2008, he coauthors “Faster and better” with Reid Porter and Tom Drummond; their learned detector processes live PAL video using less than 5% of available processing time.

    A Koenderink Prize
