Researcher

Edward R. Dougherty

Also known as Edward Russell Dougherty

Dougherty was an American mathematician and electrical engineer whose work centered on genomic signal processing and pattern recognition. He earned a Rutgers PhD in 1974 and joined the Texas A&M faculty in 1996, where he directed the Genomic Signal Processing Laboratory. He co-wrote Genomic Signal Processing with Ilya Shmulevich in 2007 and Error Estimation for Pattern Recognition in 2015. IEEE named him a Fellow for 2012, and Thomson Reuters placed him on its 2014 list of influential scientific minds. He died in 2025.
