Christine Guillemot
Christine Guillemot studies image and video compression, with later work on deep learning for low-light satellite imaging and neural plenoptic scenes. She earned a PhD at ENST in Paris in 1992, worked at France Telecom, and joined Inria as a director of research in 1997. Her 2015 ERC Advanced Grant supports a computational light-field imaging project that includes a SIROCCO light-field editor. She became an IEEE Fellow in 2013 and a EURASIP Fellow in 2026. As of October 2026, she is an Inria senior researcher in the COMPACT team and co-supervises research on dynamic 3D-scene compression.
Timeline
-
1985–1997
Image and video coding
She works at France Telecom on image and video compression for multimedia and digital television from 1985 to 1997. She earns a PhD at ENST in Paris in 1992 and visits Bellcore as a scientist from 1990 to 1991.
-
Since 1997
Research director at Inria
In November 1997, she joins Inria as director of research and leads a team that designs algorithms for image and video processing, representation, compression, and editing.
-
2013
An IEEE Fellowship
IEEE names her a Fellow in 2013 for contributions to image and video compression.
-
2015–2021
A plenoptic imaging project
She receives a 2015 ERC Advanced Grant for computational light-field imaging, a project that runs from 2016 to 2021. In 2017, her SIROCCO team develops a light-field editor.
-
2020–2023
Deep learning for satellite imaging
From 2020 to 2023, she contributes to an Airbus-backed project on deep-learning methods for low-light satellite imaging.
-
2025
Neural plenoptic scene pruning
In 2025, she co-authors work on visibility-based geometry pruning for neural plenoptic scene representations.
-
2026
A EURASIP Fellowship
EURASIP names her a Fellow in 2026 for contributions to video compression and computational imaging.
-
As of October 2026
Research at Inria COMPACT
As of October 2026, she is an Inria senior researcher in the COMPACT team in Rennes. She co-supervises doctoral work on compression of dynamic 3D scenes with Gaussian splatting.
