Chanyoung Park
Also known as 박찬영
Chanyoung Park is a KAIST computer scientist whose work spans graph learning, language models, and AI for science. He earned computer-science degrees at Sogang and POSTECH, held internships at NAVER and Microsoft Research, completed a UIUC postdoc, and joined KAIST as an assistant professor in 2020. His work includes asp2vec for multi-aspect network embedding, a synthetic-data method for federated learning, and a 2025 EMNLP survey on ambiguity in conversational question answering with large language models. In 2025, he served as a general chair of CIKM and received KAIST's Impact Research Award. Today, he is a KAIST associate professor, director of DSAIL, and technical advisor to NanoForge AI; in 2026, he coauthored CLADD, a retrieval-augmented system of collaborative LLM agents for drug discovery.
Timeline
-
2014–2019
Computer science at Sogang and POSTECH
He earns a B.S. in computer science and engineering from Sogang University in 2014 and completes a Ph.D. in computer science and engineering at POSTECH in 2019.
-
2017–2020
Internships and a UIUC postdoc
In 2017, he interns at Microsoft Research's Social Computing Group with Dr. Xing Xie and at NAVER Shopping with Dr. Jung-Tae Lee. From 2019 to 2020, he is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Computer Science Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
-
2020–2025
asp2vec and a KAIST appointment
In 2020, he coauthors asp2vec, an end-to-end method for multi-aspect network embedding that assigns each node an aspect from its local context. He joins KAIST as an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
-
2025
Synthetic data for federated learning
In 2025, he leads a KAIST team that uses synthetic data during federated-learning fine-tuning to reduce local overfitting.
-
2025
CIKM chair and KAIST award
He serves as a general chair of CIKM 2025 and receives KAIST's 2025 Impact Research Award.
-
2025
An EMNLP survey on LLM ambiguity
He coauthors a 2025 EMNLP survey that analyzes ambiguity in conversational question answering, compares LLM-based disambiguation approaches, and identifies open questions for agentic settings.
-
2025–2026
Visiting scholar at UC San Diego
From 2025 to 2026, he is a visiting scholar in UC San Diego's Department of Computer Science and Engineering with Prof. Julian McAuley.
-
Since 2025
KAIST associate professor and CLADD
In 2025, he becomes an associate professor in KAIST's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. He directs DSAIL, whose research spans graph and relational learning, personalized recommendation, multimodal intelligence, agentic AI, and AI for science, and advises NanoForge AI. In 2026, he coauthors CLADD, a retrieval-augmented system of collaborative LLM agents for drug discovery.
