Bruce Friedrich

Bruce Friedrich is president and founder of the Good Food Institute, where he advocates bringing artificial intelligence into alternative-protein research. His education includes degrees from Grinnell College, Johns Hopkins University, the London School of Economics, and Georgetown Law; he worked in PETA campaigns from 1996 to 2011 and directed policy at Farm Sanctuary from 2011 to 2015. From 2015 to 2016, he helped launch GFI and served as a founding trustee and managing director of New Crop Capital, a fund for plant-based and cultured alternatives. His 2018 Effective Altruism Global talk encouraged science careers, and his 2026 book Meat argues that science, policy, and industry can meet demand for meat through alternative proteins.
