Researcher

Anthony D. Joseph

Anthony Joseph is a Berkeley computer scientist whose work spans secure machine learning, genomics and systems research for AI in production. At MIT, he earned a master’s in electrical engineering and computer science and a bachelor’s in computer science and engineering in 1988, then completed a computer science doctorate in 1998 and joined UC Berkeley EECS. He received an NSF CAREER award in 2000 and was a Nokia Foundation Visiting Fellow in 2004, then directed Intel Labs Berkeley from 2008 to 2011. He coauthored a 2006 study of attacks on statistical learning, a 2017 report on AI systems, and the 2019 book Adversarial Machine Learning. As of October 2026, he is a Chancellor’s Professor and Faculty Director of Berkeley’s Fung Institute, and serves as Special Advisor to the Chancellor and Cybersecurity Responsible Executive.
