Angelique Taylor
Angelique Taylor is a human-robot interaction researcher who designs AI and robots for healthcare teams in safety-critical settings. She began doctoral study at Notre Dame, moved to UC San Diego’s Healthcare Robotics Lab to work with Laurel Riek, and completed a computer science and engineering Ph.D. there in 2021. She coauthored a 2019 CSCW paper on clinical teamwork, presented REGROUP for robot-based group tracking, and helped develop a robotic crash cart with healthcare professionals. She serves as an assistant professor of information science in emergency medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and directs AIRLab at Cornell Tech.

Timeline
-
2019
Robots for clinical teamwork
In 2019, she coauthors “Coordinating Clinical Teams: Using Robots to Empower Nurses to Stop the Line,” a CSCW paper that receives a Best Paper Honorable Mention.
-
By 2021
A doctorate in healthcare robotics
At high school, she studies in an architecture-focused program and grows interested in hands-on electrical engineering. She begins a Ph.D. at Notre Dame to work with advisor Laurel Riek, moves to UC San Diego’s Healthcare Robotics Lab to continue with Riek, and completes a computer science and engineering Ph.D. there in 2021. In the lab, she develops algorithms that let robots interact with groups.

2022
REGROUP and Cornell Tech
In February 2022, she presents REGROUP, a robot-centric system that detects and tracks groups using person-reidentification features. The system receives HRI’s Best Paper Award in 2022. After serving as a visiting research scientist at Meta Reality Labs Research, she joins Cornell Tech; her research uses robotics, computer vision and AI to design intelligent systems for real-world, safety-critical environments.
-
2023
A Google inclusion research award
For work on inclusive clinical teamwork, she receives the Google Inclusion Research Award in 2023 for a proposal to empower nurses to promote patient safety.
-
2024
AIRLab leadership and HRI recognition
In March 2024, her lead-authored paper “Towards Collaborative Crash Cart Robots that Support Clinical Teamwork” receives a Best Paper Honorable Mention in HRI’s design category. By April 2024, she is an assistant professor in Cornell Tech’s Information Science Department and leads its Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Lab (AIRLab). As faculty advisor to the Black Cornell Tech Student Association, she helps students navigate academia and the technology industry.

February–March 2025
Crash carts and community design
In February 2025, her team presents “Rapidly Built Medical Crash Cart!” at HRI. The team tests the remotely operated cart through field deployments and refines it with healthcare professionals. In March 2025, she receives a Community-Engaged Practice and Innovation Award from Cornell’s Einhorn Center; she uses community-driven design to build and test robots, AI and augmented-reality displays with healthcare stakeholders.
-
February 2026
Co-designing embodied AI
In February 2026, she coauthors a study of a 14-week workshop with 22 participants across emergency departments, long-term rehabilitation facilities and sleep disorder clinics. The team moves from abstract concepts to high-fidelity prototypes and proposes eight guidelines for considerate embodied AI.
-
Since 2025
Professor in emergency medicine
Since 2025, she serves as an assistant professor of information science in emergency medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and directs AIRLab at Cornell Tech. In August 2026, she joins Cornell’s Research Matters series to discuss what happens when robots enter hospital emergency departments.
