Abubakar Abid
Abubakar Abid builds open-source tools for sharing, testing and tracking machine-learning work. Born in Pakistan, he moved to the United States at age one and grew up in Friendship, Wisconsin before studying electrical engineering and computer science at MIT and receiving a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship in 2016. He co-authored the Gradio paper in 2019, and the startup he co-founded joined Hugging Face in 2021. He later announced Gradio 3.0 and co-introduced Trackio as Gradio grew to serve more than one million developers each month. As of October 2026, he is Head of Applications at Hugging Face and founder of the Fatima Institute.
