Yoav Shechtman

Yoav Shechtman is a professor of biomedical engineering at Technion whose work applies deep learning to super-resolution microscopy. After growing up in Haifa and serving in the IDF Artillery Corps, he earned a BSc and PhD at Technion, worked at Elbit Systems, and completed a Stanford postdoc in Moerner’s group. He coauthored Deep-STORM in 2018 and DeepSTORM3D in 2019; the systems used neural networks to reconstruct super-resolution images and locate dense emitters in three dimensions. He received the Krill Prize in 2021, held a Harrington Faculty Fellowship in 2023, and joined the Israel Young Academy in 2025. He served as Vice Dean of Biomedical Engineering and coauthored a 2026 review of deep learning for localization microscopy.
