Yoav Goldberg

Yoav Goldberg researches natural language processing, the field of developing computer methods for understanding and generating human languages. In 2011 Ben-Gurion University of the Negev granted him a PhD for a dissertation on the automatic syntactic processing of Modern Hebrew. His 2013 paper Universal Dependency Annotation for Multilingual Parsing, written with Ryan McDonald and Joakim Nivre, appeared at ACL 2013 and was among the winners of the ACL Test-of-Time Paper Award in 2023. As of October 2026, he is a full professor at Bar-Ilan University and helps lead its Natural Language Processing Lab. In May 2019 the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence announced a plan for an Israeli branch focused on natural language processing.

    A PhD on Hebrew syntax

    Ben-Gurion University of the Negev grants him a PhD in 2011 for a dissertation on the automatic syntactic processing of Modern Hebrew.

  2. 2013

    Universal Dependency Annotation paper

    He co-writes Universal Dependency Annotation for Multilingual Parsing with Ryan McDonald and Joakim Nivre, a paper published at ACL 2013.

  3. 2016

    A neural network primer

    He writes a primer on neural network models for natural language processing, which appears in volume 57 of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research in 2016.

  4. 2017

    A Krill Prize laureate

    He wins the Krill Prize in 2017 from the Wolf Foundation, and his work covers computer methods for understanding and generating human languages.

  5. May 2019

    The Allen Institute's Israeli branch

    In May 2019 the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence announces a plan for an Israeli branch focused on natural language processing, the field of his work.

  6. 2023

    An ACL Test-of-Time award

    The ACL announces its Test-of-Time Paper Award in July 2023, and the 2013 paper that he co-wrote is among the winners.

  7. As of October 2026

    A full professor at Bar-Ilan

    He is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Bar-Ilan University, and he helps lead its Natural Language Processing Lab.
