Kunle Olukotun
Also known as Oyekunle Ayinde Olukotun
Kunle Olukotun is a Stanford computer engineer whose career has moved from multicore processors to machine learning and AI. A PhD in computer engineering from the University of Michigan came before he joined Stanford's electrical engineering department in 1991. He founded Afara Websystems in 2000, and Sun Microsystems later acquired its Niagara processor, which now powers Oracle's SPARC-based servers. In 2017 he co-founded SambaNova Systems, a machine learning and artificial intelligence company, and as of October 2026 he is its chief technologist. His paper with Christopher De Sa and Chris Ré on asynchronous Gibbs sampling was listed as a best paper at ICML 2016, and he received the 2023 IEEE CS Eckert-Mauchly Award for work on multicore and multithreaded processors.
