Shirong Ma
Shirong Ma is an AI researcher at DeepSeek whose name appears on the technical reports behind the company's open-source language models. Educated at Tsinghua University, they were first author of a 2022 paper on building training corpora for Chinese grammatical error correction. Their name then appeared on the author lists of DeepSeek LLM, DeepSeek-Coder-V2 and DeepSeek-V3 in 2024, the Nature paper on DeepSeek-R1 in 2025, and the DeepSeek-V3.2 and DeepSeek-V4 reports. In September 2026, they were among the authors of the DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash and DSec reports, and they continue as a DeepSeek researcher.

2022
A Chinese error-correction corpus
Educated at Tsinghua University, they are first author of "Linguistic Rules-Based Corpus Generation for Native Chinese Grammatical Error Correction", published in Findings of EMNLP 2022. The paper builds large-scale training corpora with automatically generated grammatical errors and a benchmark made of errors by native Chinese speakers.

January 2024
DeepSeek LLM 67B
DeepSeek LLM, an open-source language model project described in January 2024, lists them among its DeepSeek-AI authors. The 67B model surpasses LLaMA-2 70B on various benchmarks, particularly in code, mathematics and reasoning.
-
June 2024
DeepSeek-Coder-V2 for code
DeepSeek-Coder-V2, posted in June 2024, is an open-source Mixture-of-Experts code model further pre-trained from an intermediate DeepSeek-V2 checkpoint with 6 trillion additional tokens, and they are among its authors. It expands support from 86 to 338 programming languages and the context length from 16K to 128K.
-
December 2024
The DeepSeek-V3 report
The DeepSeek-V3 technical report of December 2024 names them among its authors. DeepSeek-V3 is a Mixture-of-Experts language model with 671B total parameters, 37B of them activated for each token.
-
September 2025
DeepSeek-R1 in Nature
Nature publishes the DeepSeek-R1 paper in September 2025, with them among the DeepSeek-AI Team authors. The paper shows that the reasoning abilities of LLMs can be incentivized through pure reinforcement learning, which removes the need for human-labelled reasoning trajectories.
-
December 2025
DeepSeek-V3.2 and Speciale
DeepSeek-V3.2 appears in December 2025 with them among its authors. It introduces DeepSeek Sparse Attention, and its high-compute variant DeepSeek-V3.2-Speciale achieves gold-medal performance at the 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad and the International Olympiad in Informatics.
-
April 2026
The DeepSeek-V4 preview
The DeepSeek-V4 preview of April 2026 lists them as an author. It presents DeepSeek-V4-Pro with 1.6T parameters (49B activated) and DeepSeek-V4-Flash with 284B parameters (13B activated), both supporting a context length of one million tokens.
-
As of October 2026
Researcher at DeepSeek
They are an AI researcher at DeepSeek. In September 2026, they are among the authors of DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, a multimodal Mixture-of-Experts model with 552B backbone parameters, and of the report on DeepSeek Elastic Compute (DSec), a production sandbox platform for agentic training.
