Roger Mohr

Also known as R. Mohr

Roger Mohr was a French computer scientist whose work helped establish computer vision research in Grenoble. After earning a degree at ENS Cachan and teaching in Nancy, he joined ENSIMAG in 1988 and created a computer vision research team; his interests included 3D perception and image indexing. He led Xerox Research Europe's French laboratory, directed ENSIMAG, and shared the 2006 Longuet-Higgins Prize with Cordelia Schmid for their work on local grayvalue invariants. Before he died in 2017, he was an emeritus professor at ENSIMAG and a member of Inria's LEAR team.

Timeline

  1. 1969–1973

    Training and teaching in Nancy

He is a French computer scientist who earns a degree at ENS Cachan in 1969 and begins as an assistant in mathematics at Nancy's IUT for computer science. He completes an informatics thesis under Claude Pair in 1972 and stays at the IUT through 1973.

  2. 1988

    A computer vision team

At ENSIMAG in Grenoble, he creates a research team in computer vision in 1988. His research covers geometry for 3D computer vision, 3D perception, and image indexing.

  3. 1996

    Local grayvalue invariants

With Cordelia Schmid, he publishes “Combining greyvalue invariants with local constraints for object recognition” at CVPR in 1996. The paper combines local grayvalue invariants and constraints to recognize objects.

  4. 2000–2002

    Leading Xerox Research Europe

He directs Xerox Research Europe's French research laboratory in Grenoble from 2000 to 2002.

  5. 2003–2008

    Director of ENSIMAG

He directs Grenoble's École nationale supérieure d’informatique et de mathématiques appliquées, ENSIMAG, from 2003 to 2008.

  6. 2006

    A Longuet-Higgins Prize

He and Cordelia Schmid receive the 2006 Longuet-Higgins Prize for their 1996 CVPR paper.

  7. 2011

    Emeritus professor at ENSIMAG

In 2011, he is a faculty member of Inria's LEAR team and an emeritus professor at ENSIMAG.

  8. 2017

    Death in La Tronche

He dies in 2017 in La Tronche.
