Researcher

Robert Pastor

Robert Pastor is a robotics researcher whose work applies machine learning and optimization to robot design and synthetic training data. He studies at a mechanical high school in Ostrava-Vítkovice, chooses robotics during his mechanical-engineering program and leads RoverOva to third place in the 2019 European Rover Challenge. His 2021 dissertation and 2021–2022 papers address robot kinematics, quadruped optimization, automated manipulator design, synthetic depth data for hand localization and simulated data for neural networks. In September 2024, he serves as MEBSTER’s chief scientific officer at ISCoS in Antwerp; since 2025, he works on the company’s lower-limb exoskeleton and its post-marketing studies.

Timeline

  1. By 2019

    RoverOva takes third place

He studies at a mechanical high school in Ostrava-Vítkovice and chooses robotics during the second year of his mechanical-engineering program. In 2019, he leads VSB-TUO’s RoverOva team to third place at the European Rover Challenge in Poland; the team rebuilds most of its K3P4 rover for the contest.

  2. 2021

    Machine learning for robot kinematics

In 2021, he completes a doctoral dissertation at VSB-TUO’s Department of Robotics on applying machine learning to robot-kinematics design.

  3. June 2021

    Optimizing a quadruped robot

In June 2021, he coauthors a study that uses a genetic algorithm and topology optimization to improve a quadruped robot. The paper compares performance in simulation and laboratory testing.

  4. 2022

    Knowledge-based robot design

In 2022, he coauthors Knowledge-Based Automated Mechanical Design of a Robot Manipulator.

  5. 2022

Synthetic depth data for hand localization

In 2022, he coauthors Generating Synthetic Depth Image Dataset for Industrial Applications of Hand Localization.

  6. 2022

    Neural-network training data

In 2022, he coauthors the conference paper Simulation Environment for Neural Network Dataset Generation.

  7. September 2024

    Chief scientific officer at MEBSTER

In September 2024, he serves as MEBSTER’s chief scientific officer and attends the International Spinal Cord Society conference in Antwerp with CEO Michal Gloger.

  8. Since 2025

    MEBSTER exoskeleton studies

Since 2025, he works at MEBSTER on its lower-limb support exoskeleton and conducts post-marketing studies of the product. He also handles the exoskeleton’s sensor subsystem and analyzes study data.
