Robert P.W. Duin
Also known as Robert Pieter Wilhelm Duin
Robert P.W. Duin is a researcher in statistical pattern recognition, the field that trains machines to sort objects into classes. He joined the pattern recognition group at Delft University of Technology in 1970, and after 2000 his research centered on dissimilarity representation. His 1978 doctoral thesis examined the accuracy of statistical pattern recognizers, and the IAPR made him a Fellow in 2002 and chose him for the Pierre Devijver Award in 2006. He officially retired in 2011, and a review article lists him at the Pattern Recognition Laboratory in Delft.
