Qing He
Also known as He Qing, 何清
Qing He is a computer scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences whose machine learning and data mining work includes cloud-based big data platforms and transfer learning. Mathematics degrees at Hebei Normal University and Zhengzhou University came first, followed by teaching at Hebei University of Science and Technology until 1997 and a PhD in fuzzy mathematics and artificial intelligence at Beijing Normal University in 2000. At the Institute of Computing Technology, which he joined as a postdoctoral researcher in 2000, he led a team that developed a cloud-based parallel data mining platform for the China Mobile Research Institute by the end of 2008. Recognition came as a second prize in the Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Innovation Award in 2015 and the PAKDD Most Influential Paper Award in 2018, and in 2019 he was among the eight authors of the survey A Comprehensive Survey on Transfer Learning. A professor at the Institute of Computing Technology and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, he is also vice secretary-general of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence.
Timeline
-
1985–2000
A fuzzy mathematics PhD
Hebei Normal University gives him a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1985, and Zhengzhou University a master's degree in mathematics in 1987. Between 1987 and 1997 he teaches at Hebei University of Science and Technology. In 2000, Beijing Normal University awards him a PhD in fuzzy mathematics and artificial intelligence.
-
2000–2008
Postdoc to researcher at ICT
The Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, takes him on as a postdoctoral researcher in 2000, an associate researcher in 2002 and a researcher in 2008. A visiting professorship at the Saint Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences comes in 2001.
-
2006
A Beijing science and technology prize
A professorship at the Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a third prize in the Beijing Science and Technology Award both come in 2006.
-
2008–2012
A cloud platform for data mining
By the end of 2008, his machine learning and data mining team, commissioned by the China Mobile Research Institute, develops a cloud-based parallel data mining platform for terabyte-level real data. Software from the team, including PDMiner, finds use in telecommunications, electricity, information security, environmental protection and financial insurance. In 2012, ZTE Communications publishes Parallel Web Mining System Based on Cloud Platform, which he coauthors with colleagues from ZTE and the institute.
-
2015
A Wu Wenjun innovation award
A second prize in the Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Innovation Award comes to him in 2015, given for big data mining algorithms and cloud services.
-
2018
PAKDD most influential paper award
The PAKDD Most Influential Paper Award comes to him in 2018.
-
2019–2021
Transfer learning survey and DSAN
A Comprehensive Survey on Transfer Learning appears on arXiv in November 2019 with him among its eight authors; it reviews more than forty transfer learning approaches and runs over twenty models on three datasets. Deep Subdomain Adaptation Network for Image Classification, with him as a coauthor, appears on arXiv in June 2021. Its DSAN method aligns relevant subdomain distributions through a local maximum mean discrepancy and needs no adversarial training.
-
As of October 2026
Professor at ICT and UCAS
A professor and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, he also holds a professorship at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Since 2003 he serves as vice secretary-general of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence.
