Gennady S. Osipov

Also known as Gennady Simeonovich Osipov, Геннадий Семёнович Осипов

Gennady Osipov was an AI researcher whose work included dynamic intelligent systems and semantic search. He studied theoretical physics and applied mathematics at Rostov-on-Don State University from 1967 to 1972 and led an AI research centre at the Software Institute from 1974 to 1984. In 1998, he developed a theory of dynamic intelligent systems; in 2008, EXACTUS placed first in precision and completeness at the Russian Search Engine competition. In 2015, he gave MICAI's keynote on sign-based and symbolic models, served as president of the Russian Association for Artificial Intelligence, and was an ECCAI Fellow. From 2015 to 2020, he served as deputy director of the Federal Research Center for Computer Science and Control of the Russian Academy of Sciences; he died in 2020.

    Physics and applied mathematics

    From 1967 to 1972, he studies theoretical physics and applied mathematics at Rostov-on-Don State University.

  2. 1974–1984

    Leading an AI research centre

    From 1974 to 1984, he heads a laboratory and an AI research centre at the Software Institute in Pereslavl-Zalessky.

  3. 1998

    Dynamic intelligent systems

    In 1998, he develops a theory of dynamic intelligent systems and investigates their behaviour. His research addresses fundamental and applied models and methods of artificial intelligence.

  4. 2008

    EXACTUS wins a search contest

    In the 2008 Russian Search Engine competition, EXACTUS takes first place in precision and completeness; he is one of the system's patentees.

  5. 2015

    A MICAI keynote on sign models

    In 2015, he gives MICAI’s keynote on sign-based and symbolic models. He is president of the Russian Association for Artificial Intelligence and an ECCAI Fellow.

  6. 2015–2020

    A research center deputy director

    From 2015 to 2020, he serves as deputy director of the Federal Research Center for Computer Science and Control of the Russian Academy of Sciences, whose work includes artificial intelligence and cognitive sciences.

  7. 2020

    Death in 2020

    He dies in 2020.
