Nikhil Raghuraman
Nikhil Raghuraman is a computer scientist whose work spans visual reasoning, multimodal models, speech, and coding agents. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science at Stanford, where he worked with Serena Yeung and Leonidas Guibas, then moved from software engineering at Jane Street to AI research at Mistral AI. His work includes a 2023 study of context in Bongard problems, Pixtral 12B, AllTracker, Mistral's 2025 reasoning, audio, and coding models, and the 2026 Ministral 3 report. Since January 2026, he is a Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI.
Timeline
-
2018–2023
Computer science at Stanford
At Stanford, he studies computer science as a BA student from 2018 to 2022 and as an MSc student from 2022 to 2023. He earns both degrees and works with Professors Serena Yeung and Leonidas Guibas.
-
2023
Support-set context for Bongard problems
In 2023, he coauthors Support-Set Context Matters for Bongard Problems with Adam W. Harley and Leonidas Guibas. The paper studies how adapting image features to the full support set can improve Bongard problem solving.
-
September 2023–January 2026
Jane Street to Mistral AI
From September 2023 to August 2024, he works as a software engineer at Jane Street. In September 2024, he joins Mistral AI as an AI Scientist and works there through January 2026.
-
2024
Pixtral 12B
In 2024, he coauthors Pixtral 12B, a multimodal language model trained to understand natural images and documents.
-
2025
Mistral's reasoning, audio and coding models
In 2025, he coauthors Magistral, Mistral's first reasoning model and a scalable reinforcement-learning pipeline. He also coauthors Voxtral Mini and Voxtral Small, audio chat models trained to understand spoken audio and text documents, and Devstral-Small, a lightweight open-source model for code agents.
-
2025
AllTracker point tracking
In 2025, he coauthors AllTracker, which estimates long-range point tracks by computing flow between a query frame and every other video frame. It produces high-resolution, dense correspondence fields.
-
January 2026
Ministral 3
In January 2026, he coauthors Ministral 3, a family of parameter-efficient dense language models for applications with limited compute and memory. Each model supports image understanding and is released under Apache 2.0.
-
Since January 2026
Member of Technical Staff
Since January 2026, he is a Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI.
