  4. 2008

    An ACM Fellowship

The Association for Computing Machinery names him a Fellow in 2008.

  5. 2009

    Building Stanford CourseWare

With six undergraduate students, he builds Stanford CourseWare in 2009; the platform expands to interactive video and discussion and helps inspire Stanford’s first MOOCs.

  6. 2012

    Leading online learning

Stanford appoints him its first vice provost for online learning in 2012, with responsibility for the university’s online-learning initiatives.
