Mohamed Elhoseny

Also known as Mohamed El-Hoseny

Mohamed Elhoseny is a computer scientist whose research on artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and smart cities spans healthcare, surveillance and network security. He earned a PhD in computers and information through a joint program between Mansoura University and the University of North Texas, became an assistant professor at Mansoura in 2016, and worked at the American University in the Emirates in Dubai from 2020 to 2022. His papers include a 2018 IEEE Access study of secure medical data transmission for IoT healthcare systems, a 2019 Scientific Reports system for predicting and classifying chronic kidney disease, and a 2020 machine learning model for video surveillance. He served as an ACM Distinguished Speaker from 2019 to 2022, and by 2021 he was Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Smart Sensor Technologies and Applications and of Springer's Studies in Distributed Intelligence series. Since 2022, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Systems at the University of Sharjah's College of Computing and Informatics, and he is also a professor at Mansoura University.

  1. 2010–2016

    PhD with North Texas

    He studies for a PhD in computer science at Mansoura University from 2010 to 2015, and works as a PhD researcher at the University of North Texas from 2014 to 2016. The degree in computers and information comes through a joint program between the two universities.

  2. 2016–2020

    Assistant professor at Mansoura

    He becomes an assistant professor at Mansoura University's Faculty of Computers and Information in February 2016 and stays until August 2020, while also working as a researcher at the University of North Texas from March 2016. He is also Director of the Distributed Sensing and Intelligent Systems Lab there.

  3. 2018–2020

    Healthcare and surveillance papers

    In 2018, he publishes the paper "Secure medical data transmission model for IoT-based healthcare systems" in IEEE Access. In 2019, he coauthors with K. Shankar and J. Uthayakumar an intelligent diagnostic prediction and classification system for chronic kidney disease in Scientific Reports, and in 2020 he publishes a machine learning model for multi-object detection and tracking in real-time video surveillance in Circuits, Systems, and Signal Processing.

    ACM Distinguished Speaker

    He serves as an ACM Distinguished Speaker from 2019 to 2022 and is an IEEE Senior Member.

    Faculty posts in Dubai

    He joins the American University in the Emirates in Dubai in August 2020 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, College of Computer & Information Technology. He becomes an Associate Professor in January 2021 and manages the university's Research Support Department from February 2021 to 2022.

    Editor of journals and series

    By 2021, he is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Smart Sensor Technologies and Applications at IGI Global and Editor-in-Chief of the Studies in Distributed Intelligence book series at Springer. He has authored or edited 15 international books, and his research interests include smart cities, network security, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and intelligent systems.
