Louis Rosenberg

Louis Rosenberg is an AI researcher whose work connects human groups through swarm intelligence. He developed Virtual Fixtures at Stanford, NASA Ames and the U.S. Air Force, founded Immersion, and held a joint appointment at Cal Poly. In 2014 he founded Unanimous AI and developed Swarm AI; his later work paired swarm methods with deep learning for radiology and with language models for large-group conversation. He coauthored Our Next Reality in 2024 and, as of October 2026, is Unanimous AI’s CEO and Chief Scientist.

1991–1994

Developing Virtual Fixtures

At Stanford, NASA Ames and the U.S. Air Force’s Armstrong Labs, he develops Virtual Fixtures from 1991 to 1994, overlaying 3D virtual objects on real environments for real-time interaction. He earns bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees at Stanford, where his doctoral work focuses on robotics, virtual reality and human-computer interaction.
1993–2004

Immersion, MicroScribe and Outland

He founds Immersion Corporation in 1993 and takes it public on Nasdaq in 1999. He also starts MicroScribe 3D in 1996 and Outland Research in 2004, developing a 3D digitizer and augmented-reality and mobile-media technologies.
2010

Leaving Cal Poly

He holds a joint appointment in Cal Poly’s College of Engineering and School of Education for six years, then leaves in 2010.
2014

Co-founding Unanimous AI

In 2014, he founds Unanimous AI to connect human groups through AI modeled on biological swarms. Swarm AI serves Fortune 500 companies, the United Nations and the U.S. Air Force.
2019

Swarm AI in radiology

In 2019, he coauthors a study that combines a real-time swarm platform with a deep-learning model to diagnose pneumonia from chest radiographs. Swarm-connected radiologists outperform individual radiologists, traditional group votes and the CheXNet deep-learning system in the study.
2023

Conversational Swarm Intelligence

In 2023, Unanimous AI unveils Hyperchat AI, also called Conversational Swarm Intelligence. The method uses large language models to let smaller groups converse while sharing ideas across a much larger group in real time.
2024

Our Next Reality

He coauthors Our Next Reality with Alvin Wang Graylin in 2024, a book about how artificial intelligence and immersive media can reshape society.
