Researcher

Padhraic Smyth

Padhraic Smyth coauthored Bayesian Modeling of Human-AI Complementarity with Mark Steyvers, Heliodoro Tejeda and Gavin Kerrigan. His work places probabilistic modeling at the center of research on joint human and machine decisions. His 2025 work includes research on what language models know and what people think they know, and Bayesian inference for correlated human experts and classifiers. Both are team publications. Smyth is a distinguished professor and holds an endowed AI chair at UC Irvine. He is also founding director of its machine learning center and faculty director of the UCI Machine Learning Repository.
