Lluís Godo

Lluís Godo is a Research Professor at IIIA-CSIC and co-Editor-in-Chief of Fuzzy Sets and Systems. He earned an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Barcelona in 1979 and a PhD in Mathematics from the Technical University of Catalunya in 1990. His 1995 paper on fuzzy logic and probability develops a logical approach to probabilistic reasoning, and his 2026 work addresses inconsistency in probability reasoning. He served as vice-president of EUSFLAT and the Catalan Association for Artificial Intelligence, was nominated as an ECCAI Fellow in 2006, and became an IFSA Fellow in 2013. EUSFLAT gave him its Scientific Excellence Award in 2023 for work on the logical foundations of fuzzy sets and systems.

  1. 1979–1990

    Mathematics degrees

    In 1979, he earns an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Barcelona; in 1990, he earns a PhD in Mathematics from the Technical University of Catalunya.

  2. 1995

    Fuzzy logic and probability

    His 1995 paper “Fuzzy logic and probability” proposes a fuzzy-logic approach to probabilistic reasoning and provides completeness results.

  3. 2005–2010

    Vice-presidencies in AI societies

    At EUSFLAT, he serves as vice-president from July 2005 to June 2009. At the Catalan Association for Artificial Intelligence (ACIA), he serves as vice-president from October 2006 to October 2010.

  4. 2006

    An ECCAI fellowship

    He is nominated as a Fellow of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence (ECCAI), now EurAI, in 2006.

  5. 2013

    An IFSA fellowship

    He becomes a Fellow of the International Fuzzy Sets Association (IFSA) in 2013.

  6. 2023

    The EUSFLAT Scientific Excellence Award

    He receives the EUSFLAT Scientific Excellence Award in 2023 for contributions to the logical foundations of fuzzy sets and systems.

  7. 2026

    Probability reasoning under inconsistency

    In 2026, with Tommaso Flaminio, Sara Ugolini and Francesc Esteva, he coauthors an approach to inconsistency-tolerant reasoning about probability based on Łukasiewicz logic.
