Kjartan Ólafsson
Kjartan Ólafsson is an Icelandic composer and musicologist who began building CALMUS, a composing system based on artificial intelligence techniques, at the Sibelius Academy in 1988. After a music degree in Reykjavík in 1984 and electronic music studies in Utrecht, he earned a licentiate doctorate in composition from the Sibelius Academy in 1995. In 2005, the Iceland University of the Arts made him the first professor of composition in Iceland, a post he held until 2014. He is CEO of ErkiTónlist sf and artistic director of ErkiTíð, a Reykjavík music and technology festival he has led since 1994.
