Ketan V. Kotecha

Ketan V. Kotecha is an AI researcher and engineering academic whose work spans natural language processing, large language model unlearning, and AI-based urban traffic control. After earning a doctorate at IIT Bombay in 2003 and holding leadership roles at Nirma University, he became founding provost of Parul University in July 2015 and received an MHRD LEAP leadership grant from November 2019 to January 2020. His research includes a May 2021 study on Hinglish hate-speech detection, a 2023–2026 project on real-time traffic control for unconventional intersections, an ICNSC 2025 keynote on responsible AI, and the July 2025 NeuroReset method for unlearning sensitive information in large language models. As of October 2026, he is Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and Director of Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune.

    Doctorate at IIT Bombay

    He receives his doctorate from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in 2003.

  2. July 2015

    Founding provost at Parul University

    At Nirma University, he serves as dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, director of the Institute of Technology, and director of the Academic Development and Research Cell. In July 2015, Parul University appoints him its founding provost.

  3. November 2019–January 2020

    MHRD LEAP academic leadership grant

    From November 2019 to January 2020, he receives a Leadership for Academicians Programme (LEAP) grant from MHRD, Government of India, in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur and the University of Cambridge.

  4. May 2021

    AI for Hinglish hate speech

    In May 2021, he coauthors research on AI-based detection of hateful speech in Hindi-English social media text. The study fine-tunes contextual ELMo, FLAIR and transformer-based BERT embeddings for code-mixed Hinglish.

  5. 2023–2026

    AI traffic control for intersections

    As principal investigator, he leads a 2023–2026 project to develop AI-based algorithms for real-time urban traffic control at unconventional intersection designs, including Median U-turn and Displaced Left Turn intersections.

  6. 2025

    A responsible AI keynote

    At ICNSC 2025, he is the speaker for the keynote “Building Robust, Fair, and Responsible AI for a Secure Future.” The talk covers bias mitigation, federated learning, adversarial machine-learning attacks, and explainability.

  7. July 2025

    NeuroReset for LLM unlearning

    In July 2025, he coauthors NeuroReset, a two-phase method for unlearning sensitive information from large language models for the SemEval 2025 Task 4 challenge.
