Researcher

José Meseguer

José Meseguer is a computer scientist whose work on Maude and rewriting logic helps specify and verify computational systems. He earned a mathematics PhD at the University of Zaragoza in 1975 and joined SRI International in 1980, where he became Principal Scientist and head of the Logic and Declarative Languages Group. He coauthored a 1996 paper on rewriting-logic strategy languages with Manuel Clavel and used Maude to explore them. He joined the University of Illinois in 2001, coauthored the 2007 book All About Maude, and received the Formal Methods Europe Fellowship in 2019 and ACM Fellowship in 2020. As of October 2026, he is a professor at Illinois; his 2026 chapter addresses programming and verifying actor systems in rewriting logic.
