Jose Camacho Collados

Also known as José Camacho-Collados

Jose Camacho Collados is an NLP researcher whose work spans multilingual semantic representations, social media NLP and language models. He coauthors an ACL paper on multilingual concept representation in 2015 and receives a Google PhD Fellowship at Sapienza in 2016. At Cardiff, he co-founds Cardiff NLP, publishes Embeddings in NLP with Taher Pilehvar, and coauthors TweetNLP for social media analysis. His NASARI paper receives the Artificial Intelligence Journal's 2023 Prominent Paper Award, and Cardiff promotes him to professor in August 2023. As of October 2026, he is a Cardiff professor and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, and a grant holder on Wellcome's SYLFAEN-PSY project for psychosis symptom measurement.

Timeline

  1. 2015

    A multilingual concepts paper

With Mohammad Taher Pilehvar and Roberto Navigli, he coauthors A Unified Multilingual Semantic Representation of Concepts at ACL in 2015.

  2. 2016

    A Google NLP PhD Fellowship

Google names him a PhD Fellow in Natural Language Processing at Sapienza University of Rome in 2016. He studies at Sapienza's Linguistic Computing Laboratory, and his education includes an Erasmus Mundus master's in Natural Language Processing and Human Language Technology.

  3. 2020

    Founding Cardiff NLP

In July 2020, he co-founds the Cardiff NLP group.

  4. 2020

    An NLP embeddings book

With Taher Pilehvar, he publishes Embeddings in NLP in December 2020, a book about vector representations in natural language processing.

  5. 2022

    TweetNLP for social media

He coauthors the 2022 TweetNLP paper, which presents an integrated platform for natural language processing on social media. It includes task-specific Transformer models, a Python library, an interactive demo and a tutorial.

  6. 2023

    A NASARI paper award

The Artificial Intelligence Journal gives the 2023 Prominent Paper Award to NASARI, his 2016 work with Mohammad Taher Pilehvar and Roberto Navigli on multilingual concept and entity representations. In August 2023, Cardiff promotes him to Professor.

  7. 2025

    Testing LLMs on puns

In 2025, he coauthors Pun Unintended: LLMs and the Illusion of Humor Understanding. The paper finds that subtle changes in puns can mislead LLMs, whose grasp of humor can remain shallow.

  8. As of October 2026

    Professor and SYLFAEN grant

In 2026, Wellcome lists him among the grant holders for SYLFAEN-PSY, a project that uses large language models and multimodal data to create proxy measurements of psychotic symptoms. As of October 2026, he is a Professor at Cardiff University's School of Computer Science and Informatics and a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow.
