Guoliang Li

Guoliang Li is a computer scientist whose research connects machine learning with database systems through data integration and crowdsourcing. He earned computer science degrees at Harbin Institute of Technology and Tsinghua and was an associate professor in Tsinghua's Department of Computer Science by 2015. At an HKUST seminar in May 2015, he presented a study of quality-aware task assignment for crowdsourcing. He received the 2017 VLDB Early Career Award and a 2023 IEEE Computer Society Fellowship; in 2025, he coauthored the SIGMOD tutorial ‘Data+AI: LLM4Data and Data4LLM’ and received ICDE Best Paper Runner-up recognition. As of October 2026, he is a professor and associate dean at Tsinghua and a vice president of Zhongguancun Academy.

    Crowdsourcing task assignment

    In May 2015, he presents the HKUST talk ‘Quality-Aware Task Assignment in Crowdsourcing.’ It studies task assignment strategies that use worker-answer probability distributions with Accuracy and F-score.

  4. 2017

    Human-in-the-loop data integration

    VLDB gives him its Early Career Award in 2017 for ‘Human-in-the-loop Data Integration.’

  5. 2022

    AI and database optimization

    By 2022, he is a professor in Tsinghua's Department of Computer Science. His research interests include database systems, data cleaning and integration, crowdsourcing, and AI and database co-optimization.

  6. 2023

    An IEEE Computer Society Fellowship

    The IEEE Computer Society names him to its 2023 Fellow class for contributions to human-in-the-loop data management and database systems.

  7. 2025

    Data+AI and LLM research

    In 2025, he coauthors the SIGMOD tutorial ‘Data+AI: LLM4Data and Data4LLM’ with Jiayi Wang, Chenyang Zhang and Jiannan Wang. He also receives ICDE 2025 Best Paper Runner-up recognition.
