Sreedurga Gogulapati
Also known as Gogulapati Sreedurga
Sreedurga Gogulapati is an AI researcher who studies fairness in public budgeting through computational social choice, algorithms, and game theory. She earned a gold-medal computer science degree at IIIT Jabalpur, completed a direct PhD at IISc, and won a poster award in 2019. Her work introduced group-fair budgeting rules, developed a hybrid budget model, and examined probabilistic assignment and proportionality; IISc commended her thesis in 2025. Since November 2025, she is an assistant professor in IIT Hyderabad's Department of Artificial Intelligence, researching multi-agent systems with social choice and game theory.
Timeline
-
2014–2023
A gold-medal degree and PhD
She earns a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Jabalpur, with a gold medal in 2018. In August 2018, she begins a direct PhD in IISc's Department of Computer Science and Automation and works in the Game Theory Lab under Prof. Y. Narahari. She graduates in 2023 after submitting Exploring Welfare Maximization and Fairness in Participatory Budgeting in July 2023 and defending the thesis in December 2023.
-
2019
Best poster at IITGN
In 2019, she wins the Best Poster Award at the ACM Summer School on Algorithmic Game Theory at IITGN.
-
2022–2023
Maxmin and group-fair budgeting
In July 2022, she coauthors Maxmin Participatory Budgeting with Mayank Ratan Bhardwaj and Yadati Narahari, a computational and axiomatic study of an egalitarian rule for indivisible projects. The paper gives algorithms and additive approximation guarantees for restricted cases and reports exact optimal solutions on real-world datasets. In 2023, she and coauthors introduce two group-fairness notions for divisible participatory budgeting with single-peaked preferences, characterize group-fair rules, and give families computable in polynomial time.
-
September 2022–June 2023
Research internships in Amsterdam and Warwick
From September to November 2022, she is a research intern at the University of Amsterdam. From January to June 2023, she is a research intern at the University of Warwick.
-
November 2023–November 2025
DeepMind Academic Fellow
She joins the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics as a DeepMind Academic Fellow in November 2023 and completes the fellowship in November 2025.
-
2024
A hybrid budgeting model
In 2024, she proposes a hybrid participatory-budgeting model that includes divisible and indivisible projects and other social-choice variants as special cases. She develops objectives and algorithms for the model.
-
2025
A thesis commendation and TTC result
In June 2025, IISc's Department of Computer Science and Automation selects her PhD thesis for a Commendation Certificate for the 2023–24 academic year. In July 2025, she coauthors On Probabilistic Assignment Rules with Yadati Narahari, Souvik Roy, and Soumyarup Sadhukhan. The paper studies agents with initial endowments and strict preferences over all objects and shows that, under deterministic endowments, SD-efficiency, SD-individual rationality, and SD-top-strategy-proofness characterize the Top Trading Cycles rule.
-
Since November 2025
Assistant professor at IIT Hyderabad
She joins IIT Hyderabad's Department of Artificial Intelligence as an assistant professor in November 2025. In March 2026, she coauthors Proportionality Degree in Participatory Budgeting with Aris Filos-Ratsikas and Georgios Kalantzis; the paper derives tight bounds on proportionality for the Method of Equal Shares and Phragmén's Sequential Rule. She researches social choice theory, algorithms, game theory, and multi-agent systems.
