Soumith Chintala
Soumith Chintala grew up in Hyderabad and studied at VIT Vellore and NYU before joining Meta AI's Fundamental AI Research team in 2014. He coauthored DCGAN, a 2015 paper on unsupervised representation learning, then helped start PyTorch in 2016. He coauthored PyTorch's 2019 NeurIPS paper, which describes an imperative, Pythonic library that makes debugging easy; ICLR selected DCGAN for its 2026 Test of Time Award. He left Meta in late 2025, joined Thinking Machines Lab in November, and became its CTO in January 2026.
