Gian Luca Foresti is a computer scientist whose work spans machine and deep learning, cybersecurity, computer vision, and video surveillance. He earned a degree in electronic engineering with honors in 1990 and a doctorate in electronic engineering and computer science in 1994, then became a professor at the University of Udine in 2005. He became an IAPR Fellow in 2010 for contributions to image processing and pattern recognition in video surveillance systems. He served as president of Italy’s national association for researchers in computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning from 2018 to 2022, led the COVERT project on stealth cyber threats from 2024 to 2025, and coordinated Udine’s interdepartmental AI plan in 2025. As of October 2026, he is a full professor at Udine and directs its Master in Intelligence and Emerging Technologies.
