Gary B. Fogel
Gary B. Fogel is a computational intelligence researcher whose work applies AI methods to biology and medicine. He earned biology degrees at UC Santa Cruz and UCLA, joined Natural Selection in 1998, and coauthored a 2006 paper on gene function and codon usage using cluster analysis and SVMs. He chaired an IEEE evolutionary-computation congress, served in IEEE Computational Intelligence Society roles, received Sigma Xi and IEEE honors, edited BioSystems, and helped found an IEEE bioinformatics committee and conference. As of October 2026, he is CEO of Natural Selection and applies computational intelligence to real-world problems.
