Researcher

Feng Xia

Feng Xia is a researcher in graph learning whose work covers social networks, knowledge graphs, and cyber-physical systems. He held academic roles at Dalian University of Technology and Federation University, including department leadership at Dalian and an associate professorship at Federation. His work on multivariate relations in social networks received a 2020 JCDL honorable mention, and he coauthored surveys on knowledge graphs and graph learning. IEEE named him a 2026 Fellow for contributions to graph learning and networked cyber-physical systems. As of October 2026, he is a Professor of AI at RMIT University and chairs IEEE's Task Force on Learning for Graphs.

Timeline

  1. 2016

    Research leadership at Dalian

At the 2016 IEEE SocialSec conference, he is a full professor at Dalian University of Technology and Head of the Department of Cyber Engineering.

  2. 2020

    A JCDL honorable mention

In 2020, he coauthors Multivariate Relations Aggregation Learning in Social Networks. The paper proposes the multivariate relationship aggregation learning (MORE) method to capture multivariate relations in networks and receives the Vannevar Bush Best Paper Honorable Mention at JCDL.

  3. 2020–2021

    A model for research teams

In 2020, he coauthors a model that recommends a replacement for a departing research-team member by comparing skills and working relationships. In 2021, he is an associate professor in Federation University's Engineering, IT and Physical Sciences department.

  4. 2023

    Knowledge graphs and AI

In 2023, he coauthors Knowledge Graphs: Opportunities and Challenges, a survey of AI systems built on knowledge graphs, their application fields, and technical challenges.

  5. 2023–2025

    Graph learning and IEEE service

From 2023 to 2024, he serves as vice-chair of IEEE's Task Force on Learning for Graphs. Since 2025, he chairs the task force and coauthors Graph Learning, a survey of scalable, temporal, multimodal, generative, explainable, and responsible graph learning.

  6. 2026

    An IEEE Fellowship

IEEE elevates him to Fellow effective 1 January 2026 for contributions to graph learning and networked cyber-physical systems.

  7. As of October 2026

    Professor of AI at RMIT

As of October 2026, he is a Professor of AI at RMIT University in Melbourne and chairs IEEE's Task Force on Learning for Graphs.
