Enrique H. Ruspini
Enrique H. Ruspini was a researcher in fuzzy logic whose work linked numerical clustering with autonomous robot control. After earning a mathematics degree at the University of Buenos Aires in 1965, he published a 1969 paper that set out conceptual tools for fuzzy clustering. At SRI, he coauthored the fuzzy controller for Flakey; he also directed the Collaborative Intelligent Systems Laboratory at the European Centre for Soft Computing and served IEEE’s Neural Networks Council and Computational Intelligence Society. He received the IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Award in 2018 and died in 2019.
Timeline
-
1965–1969
Mathematics and fuzzy clustering
He earns a degree in mathematical sciences at the University of Buenos Aires in 1965. His 1969 paper provides conceptual tools for fuzzy clustering, representing large data sets and complex objects as collections of fuzzy sets.
