Enrico Magli

Enrico Magli is a professor at Politecnico di Torino whose AI research spans image processing, computer vision and satellite imaging. He leads the Image Processing and Learning group and serves as principal investigator of the 2026 IntelliSwarm project on distributed AI for satellite swarms; he also serves as ToothPic's president. Earlier, he led CRISP on compressive sensing and the ToothPic camera-identification project, and coauthored a graph-convolutional network for image denoising. His work received the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society's Transactions Prize Paper Award in 2011; IEEE named him a Fellow in 2017, and he shared IEEE MultiMedia's Best Paper Award in 2019.

  1. 2011–2016

    CRISP and compressive sensing

    From 2011 to 2016, he leads CRISP as principal investigator at Politecnico di Torino. The project applies compressive sampling to complex information-processing systems.

  2. 2011–2017

    IEEE Fellow and paper honors

    In 2011, he shares the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society's Transactions Prize Paper Award. In 2017, the IEEE Signal Processing Society names him a Fellow for contributions to compression and communication of remotely sensed imagery.

  3. 2015–2017

    ToothPic camera identification

    From 2015 to 2017, he serves as principal investigator for ToothPic, a Politecnico di Torino ERC Proof-of-Concept project to validate a camera-identification system based on compressed fingerprints.

  4. 2019

    Graph convolutions for denoising

    In 2019, with Diego Valsesia and Giulia Fracastoro, he coauthors a convolutional neural network that uses graph-convolutional layers to exploit local and non-local similarities in image denoising.

    An IEEE MultiMedia Best Paper Award

    In 2019, he shares IEEE MultiMedia's Best Paper Award.

    Professor and satellite AI lead

    As of October 2026, he is a Full Professor in Politecnico di Torino's Department of Electronics and Telecommunications and leads the Image Processing and Learning group. IntelliSwarm starts in March 2026 with him as principal investigator; the project develops distributed artificial intelligence for cooperating Earth-observation satellites. He is President of ToothPic.
