Enhong Chen

Also known as 陈恩红, En-Hong Chen

Enhong Chen is a professor and vice dean at the University of Science and Technology of China whose research includes data mining, machine learning and recommender systems. He earned degrees at Anhui University, Hefei University of Technology and USTC, then coauthored work on context-aware query suggestions and personalized travel recommendations. He received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2013 and became an IEEE Fellow in 2024 for contributions to context-aware data mining and recommender systems. In 2025, he coauthored an IEEE TKDE paper about large-language-model reasoning for math problems.

  1. 1989–1996

    Degrees at three universities

    He earns a B.S. at Anhui University in 1989, a master's degree at Hefei University of Technology in 1992, and a Ph.D. in computer science at USTC in 1996.

  2. 2008

    Context-aware query suggestion

    He coauthors a KDD paper on context-aware query suggestions from click-through and session data in 2008. He receives KDD's Best Application Paper Award in 2008.

  3. 2011

    Travel package recommendation

    He coauthors Personalized Travel Package Recommendation, a 2011 study of travel information for personalized recommendations. The paper wins ICDM's Best Research Paper Award.

  4. 2013

    Distinguished Young Scholars award

    He receives China's National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2013.

  5. 2024

    An IEEE Fellowship

    He becomes an IEEE Fellow in 2024 for contributions to context-aware data mining and recommender systems.

  6. 2025

    Math reasoning with large language models

    He coauthors an IEEE TKDE paper titled Knowledge-Centered Dual-Process Reasoning for Math Word Problems with Large Language Models in 2025.

    He is a professor at USTC's State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Intelligence and vice dean of its Faculty of Information and Intelligence. His research interests include data mining, machine learning, social network analysis and recommender systems.
