David Nahamoo

David Nahamoo is a speech and conversational AI researcher whose work brought speech recognition into IBM products and Watson Conversation. He grew up in Hamadan, moved to Tehran at age 12, and earned electrical-engineering degrees at Tehran University, Imperial College London, and Purdue. At IBM Research, he joined the speech-recognition team in 1982, developed acoustic-modeling techniques, led speech-product delivery, and shaped Watson Conversation. He became an IBM Fellow in 2008, joined the ISCA Fellows class in 2015, and received IEEE's 2021 James Flanagan award for speech and audio processing. He joined Pryon as Chief Technology Officer and head of R&D in 2018 and was its CTO in 2022.
