Chuan Wu

Also known as 吳川

Chuan Wu is a computer scientist whose research spans cloud computing and distributed machine learning systems. She earned computer science degrees at Tsinghua, worked in Singapore's information technology industry, completed a Toronto PhD, and joined HKU in 2008. She chaired an IEEE multimedia services group and received a 2021 Amazon Research Award for compilation optimization in distributed DNN training; her smart elderly walker won a Geneva bronze medal in 2023. HKU gave her its 2024–25 Outstanding Researcher Award, and she coauthored a 2026 paper on prompt optimization for large language models. As of October 2026, she is a professor in HKU's Department of Computer Science.
