Researcher

Barbara Webb

Barbara Webb is a biorobotics researcher whose work builds computational and robot models of insect perception and behaviour. She earned a psychology degree at Sydney in 1988 and an AI PhD at Edinburgh in 1993, then held posts at Edinburgh, Nottingham, and Stirling before joining Edinburgh's School of Informatics in 2003. Her work includes a 2012 review of insect navigation and learning, a 2025 ant-inspired robotic gripper, and a 2026 report on a bee-inspired navigation robot. As of October 2026, she is Professor of Biorobotics at the University of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
