Timeline

1. 1961–1987

   Degrees at China Medical University

   Born in Dandong in 1961, he enters China Medical University in 1979 and graduates in 1987. He earns bachelor's and master's degrees there.

2. 1988–1992

   A Beijing Medical doctorate

   In 1988, he enters Beijing Medical University for doctoral study. In 1990, he joins the first China–Japan joint doctoral program at Niigata University and earns an orthopedics doctorate in 1992.

3. 1998–2006

   Vice president at People's Hospital

   From 1998 to 2006, he serves as vice president of Peking University People's Hospital. His other posts include head of the hospital's Trauma Orthopedics Department and director of Peking University's Trauma Medical Center and Department of Orthopedics.

4. 2005

   A traffic medicine center

   In 2005, he begins leading Peking University's Traffic Medicine Center and launches nationwide trauma-data collection and treatment-flow monitoring.

5. 2006–2016

   Deputy director at Health Science Center

   From 2006 to 2016, he serves as deputy director of Peking University Health Science Center.

6. 2016

   A national trauma-care award

   His team's project wins the 2016 Second Class National Science and Technology Progress Award for standardizing severe trauma care in China. The work produces a trauma database and an information system that links alerts across prehospital and hospital care.

7. 2016–2022

   President of People's Hospital

   From 2016 to 2022, he serves as president of Peking University People's Hospital.

8. 2021

   Chinese Academy of Engineering

   He is elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2021.

9. As of October 2026

   Medical AI and trauma leadership

   As of October 2026, he directs Peking University's Center for Intelligent Emergency Medical, which aims to use deep learning and precision medicine for clinical data analysis and decision tools. In May 2026, he serves as director of the National Center for Trauma Medicine, head of Peking University's Orthopedics Department, and director of Shenzhen University's Medical Department. He is also a professor and doctoral supervisor at Peking University People's Hospital.
