Researcher

Bahram Javidi

Bahram Javidi is a researcher whose work applies machine learning to optical imaging and medical screening. In 2021, he and graduate student Timothy O’Connor used machine learning to distinguish healthy from COVID-positive red blood cells by their laser-light patterns. He received SPIE’s Dennis Gabor Award in 2005 and Optica’s Emmett Leith Medal in 2021, and became an AAAS Fellow in 2022. As of October 2026, he is a Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor at the University of Connecticut and leads the MOSIS Lab.
