Researcher

Anton Leykin

Anton Leykin is a Georgia Tech mathematician whose work connects computer algebra with AI research. He studied mathematics at Kharkiv University, earned a University of Minnesota PhD in 2003, and developed Macaulay2 tools for numerical algebraic geometry. In 2025, he received a Simons Fellowship for a celestial-mechanics problem and joined an AI for Math Fund project linking Lean proof verification with Macaulay2 computation. As of October 2026, he is a Georgia Tech mathematics professor and teaches Bridge to Math.

Timeline

  1. 2003

    A mathematics doctorate

He studies mathematics at Kharkiv University as an undergraduate and earns a PhD in mathematics at the University of Minnesota in 2003.

  2. 2009–2011

    Numerical algebra in Macaulay2

He presents a Macaulay2 package that links symbolic algebra methods with numerical polynomial homotopy continuation; its version 1.4 is accepted for a journal article in 2011.

  3. 2018

    Promotion to full professor

Georgia Tech promotes him to full professor in 2018.

  4. 2025

    A Simons Fellowship

He receives a Simons Fellowship in 2025 to study a celestial-mechanics problem with nonlinear algebra and tropical geometry.

  5. 2025

    A Lean–Macaulay2 interface

His team is selected for AI for Math Fund support in 2025 to build a native Lean–Macaulay2 interface. The project aims to let Lean users call Macaulay2 functions and Macaulay2 users generate Lean proofs with AI assistance.

  6. As of October 2026

    Professor at Georgia Tech

After postdoctoral appointments at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications, he is a professor in Georgia Tech’s School of Mathematics; in Fall 2026, he teaches Bridge to Math.
