Alexander Günther
Alexander Günther is a researcher who studies risk assessment for machine-learning components in safety-critical systems. He earned a BSc in Mathematics at TU Kaiserslautern in 2019 and an MSc in Mathematics there in 2022. At RPTU, he began a PhD in Informatics in 2022 and earned a BSc in Informatics in 2023. His work produced methods for failure-on-demand analysis, confidence-aware fault trees, dependent-data classification, Markov-chain analysis, and normal-classifier risk from 2023 to 2026. As of October 2026, he is a PhD student and research assistant at RPTU's Software Engineering: Dependability chair.
Timeline
-
2015–2023
Mathematics and informatics degrees
He studies mathematics at TU Kaiserslautern from 2015 to 2022, earning a BSc in Mathematics in 2019 and an MSc in Mathematics in 2022. At RPTU, he begins a PhD in Informatics in 2022 and earns a BSc in Informatics in 2023.
-
2023
Failure-on-demand analysis
In 2023, he presents a method for score-based binary classifiers that estimates a single reliable failure-on-demand value for system safety analysis.
-
2024
Confidence-aware fault trees
At ARES 2024, he, Sebastian Vollmer, and Peter Liggesmeyer present Confidence-Aware Fault Trees. Their method adds confidence levels to fault-tree analysis and uses failure-rate bounds for basic events that hold at a stated probability.
-
2025
Risk estimates for dependent data
In 2025, he coauthors Single-Valued Risk Estimation in Classification for Dependent Data with Sebastian Vollmer and Peter Liggesmeyer for IEEE AITest.
-
2025
Markov chains for ML systems
In 2025, he coauthors Continuous-time Markov Chains and their Limit Distribution for Systems with Machine Learning Components with Joscha Carra, Paul Schädrich, and Peter Liggesmeyer.
-
2026
A bound for normal classifiers
At ESREL 2026, he and Peter Liggesmeyer publish Single-Valued Risk Bound for Normal Classifiers.
-
As of October 2026
PhD student and research assistant
As of October 2026, he is a PhD student and research assistant at RPTU's Software Engineering: Dependability chair. His research focuses on risk assessment for machine-learning components in safety-critical systems.
