Researcher

Alex James

Also known as Alex Pappachen James

Alex James researches AI hardware and memristive circuits for machine-learning systems. He completed a two-year PhD at Griffith University's Queensland Micro and Nanotechnology Center and coauthored a memristive threshold-logic design in 2015. His 2017 research uses memristive crossbars for Hierarchical Temporal Memory recognition, and his 2018 work proposes a memristor-based long short-term memory circuit. He received IEEE's Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Award in 2024 and the Dr Satyajit Chakraborty Memorial Research Award in 2026. As of October 2026, he is a full professor of AI hardware and Controller of Examinations at Digital University Kerala and serves on IEEE CASS's Board of Governors as a member at large for 2026–2028.
